Vitrified China

Vitrification is the process of subjecting china to increasing temperature in order to bring its crystalline components (flints, clay, and feldspar) closer together, eliminating the pores. The result is a strong, durable body with extremely low porosity (0% to .5%). Semi-vitrified china is considerably more porous, with low chip and impact resistance.

Flint Body

The traditional foodservice body which has been produced for over 100 years. Its main ingredients are kaolin clay, ball clay, feldspar, whiting and silica (flint).

Alumina Body

Alpha aluminum oxide is substituted for silica (flint), producing a thinner, whiter body with commercial strength and durability.

One-Fire China

A fully vitrified product which is formed, dried, finished and glazed, then fired just one time at a very high temperature. It has a polished foot without pin marks.

Two-Fire China

A fully vitrified product which is formed, dried, finished and fired at a very high temperature. It is then polished and glazed, then fired a second time at a lower temperature. It typically has a glazed foot with three pin marks.
